Why Mangalyaan matters

On 24 September 2014, India became the first nation on Earth to reach Mars orbit on its debut attempt — and the first Asian country to reach Mars at all.

🚀

First-Try Success

No other space agency — not NASA, Roscosmos, or ESA — succeeded at Mars on its first try. ISRO did.

💰

Astonishing Value

At about ₹450 crore (~US$74 million), it cost less than the movie Gravity — the cheapest Mars mission ever.

Built to Last

Designed for 6 months, it kept working for 8 years, returning over 1,000 images and years of science data.
